#6 Ford Motor Company
Ford sold 6.6 million units in the 2017 fiscal year and reported a revenue of $145.7 billion for the same period. The Ford F-series truck is its highest sold automobile. The company is headquartered in the United States in Michigan where 45% of its cars are manufactured. But it has reported majority sales in Germany.
#5 Hyundai Motor Group
The South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Kia is a brand of the Hyundai Motor Group. The company recorded a sales of 7.2 million vehicles according to Reuters. Despite bringing in a revenue of $90 billion for the 2017 fiscal year, the net profit of the company plunged by 20.5% Year-on-Year. FY17 was the fifth continuous year where the auto-gaint reported declining sales.

The US based company’s joint venture in China enabled the company to sell 4 million cars only in China in 2017. GM reported a revenue of $145.9 billion in 2017. The company has reported a 27% increase in commercial sales for the first quarter of 2018. Its major sales comes from the Light Passenger Vehicle segment. GM is currently working on increasing its overseas sales in China.
#3 Nissan Motor Corporation
According to official reports, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi group recorded the sales of 10 million units in the fiscal year 2017. Most of those sales are from the SUV and Light Passenger Vehicle segments. The group has 10 subsidiaries under it. There was a 7.6% jump in sales from 2016 to 2017. Renault Nissan is the leader in the zero emission electric vehicles segment in Europe.
#2 Toyota Motor Corporation
The Toyota Corolla had the highest sales in the industry in 2017 with more than 300,000 units sold in that time period. According to Forbes, the company is currently valued at $200 billion which is greater than the valuation of Ford, GM and Honda combined. Toyota sold 20.4 million cars in FY17. Going by the official reports, Toyota reported a revenue of $251 billion.
#1 Volkswagen Group
The German manufacturer leads the sales in the automobile industry with the sales of 10.7 million cars. This includes the sales of vehicles under the 11 subsidiaries of Volkswagen. The company’s sales grew by almost 5% despite the Dieselgate Emission Scandal. The company has a market cap of $72.9 billion according to Forbes. The revenue of volkswagen for the FY17 is $230.7 billion.
